Sumthrang Monastery founded by Ngoe Gelwa Lhanangpa in 1220-24 AD. Sumthrang Samdrup Choedzong is one of the oldest monuments of Bhutan situated above the valley of Ura.  Ngoe Gelwalhanangpa was one of the Bhuddhist saints that visited earliest after Guru Rinpoche, since which the light of wisdom began for the soil. Most of the ruling elite of Bhutan have descended  from this Chojey family to the linage of Ngoe.
